Operation Keto - Week Three
Goodbye week three, you will not be missed…well except for the Salt & Straw. At the end of week two I was feeling deflated having gained and then on top of that I started my period with the worst cramps I’ve had since high school (sorry if TMI, but menstruation is part of life so get over it please). Disneyland was less tempting than I thought but I did indulge once on Saturday night with a double scoop of Salt & Straw ice cream in a waffle cone…if I’m going to indulge I’m going to do it right. I don’t regret that decision one bit and surprisingly, it didn’t take me as long to get back into ketosis than it had after Thanksgiving. Thank the Lord!! I don’t plan on indulging again until Christmas, which will make this waffle cone look like child’s play! But hopefully the next two and a half weeks “cheat” free will help deliver the results I’m hoping for.
The last few days of week three were particularly emotional for me, but instead of eating my emotions like usual…I just didn’t eat. Obviously I don’t recommend this at all but sometimes you just feel so many emotions that your appetite simply disappears. I also found it quite easy to stop emotional eating habits when there are no carbs in the house, because if there had been cereal or bread in my pantry I think I would be saying something very different right now. Thankfully, week four is already looking up so I’m not planning on any food-less days in my future.
Weekly Update Q’s
Weight Loss or Gain
I have lost 1.5 pounds this week which makes me a lot happier than gaining. I’m still not down the full five pounds I had lost the first week, but I’m slowly making my way back there. Since this week was filled with my period and a 3-day trip to Disneyland I am just shocked I lost anything at all, so I’ll take what I can get! Last week I said I thought I looked skinnier, but this week I don’t, even though I lost. Weight is a weird thing, people.
How Do I feel?
Like last week I feel a mix of emotions. The Keto Diet is always said to drop weight fast so I think I had my expectations a little too high. Not to mention that Brett lost 15 lbs in the first two and half weeks, so living in the same house with someone who is dropping weight like nothing…it’s hard not to compare and be a little jealous. When I get in these funks about the Diet I force myself to remember to GIVE GRACE! Maybe I’m not losing as fast because my body doesn’t need to lose that much? I’m a woman and my metabolism and hormones are a lot different from a man’s! So many things keep reminding me that any “diet” is a journey and it’s going to look different for everyone and while that is annoying it’s just fact.
What are your go-to’s for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks?
On mornings I do eat breakfast, eggs are still my go-to. Our hotel at Disneyland had an omelette station in the morning which was perfect, but it was so hard to walk past the toaster and not make myself a bagel. I was a little nervous about lunch options while at Disneyland, but I opted for Chicken Caesar Salads when I could. On Sunday we ate at the Mexican restaurant next to Big Thunder Mountain and Brett and I modified the Tostada Salad with beef. The girl probably thought were were crazy to ask for no shell, no beans, and not corn, but she “happily” obliged. Dinner seems to be an easier feat since there is always steak on a menu. I didn’t make many Keto snacks this week but I am going to this week! For this next week I’m planning to make the Chia Seed Pudding and Brownies (again) from the Simply Keto Cookbook.
Overcoming temptations to break the diet…
This week I didn’t so much have temptations but just annoyances. There is only so much cheese and salami a person can eat for lunch and snacks before it gets old. This is why next week I’m going to try and cook a little bit so I have some different options ready for me. It’s actually been cold in Southern California, so my craving for soup is S.T.R.O.N.G. I’m going to try out the Loaded Cauliflower Soup from Simply Keto and this White Chicken Chili from Pinterest!
Something to think about for week four….keto ice cream parlors.
