Summer Fridays Launch Party + Review of the Jet Lag Mask

In between the hustle and chaos of rental renovations, family emergencies, and lots and lots of rain I found some time to sneak off to Culver City for a few hours to attend the launch party of the new indie skincare brand, Summer Fridays.  Created by LA bloggers and friends, Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores Ireland, the two set out to create a skincare company that gave the people what they wanted, a mask with instant gratification while providing healthy ingredients and the most Instagram worthy packaging.  We celebrated at Hayden a cheese and wine bar tucked inside the PLATFORM shopping center in Culver City.  Me and 49 other lucky attendees got to gobble down cheese, cured meats, and fruit while sipping on signature cocktails.  Leave it to two bloggers to create the most Instagrammable setting ever. There was a flat lay station with palm leaves, polaroids, tubes and tubes of Jet Lag Masks, and beautiful flowers styled and ready for that perfect Instagram, and around every corner and wall was another more beautiful floral display that I almost contemplated stealing.  Oh and I did I mention the entire place was perfectly lit?  So all you had to do after you took 100 photos was slap on a quick filter and hit "Share."  The setting was perfect for mingling and we all were able to take a photo with Marianna and Lauren against their super cute Summer Fridays mood board (pictured above, head to my Instagram to see my picture with the two girl bosses.)  After pictures we all huddled around in a big circle to chat and ask questions.  Lauren and Marianna were honestly so nice and kind.  It's always a little nerve-wracking to meet a "Insta-famous" person IRL, you are never quite sure the person they put up online is the real them and it's almost like you're secretly hoping they are awful so you can justify your jealousy of their beauty and success.  But nope, Marianna really is the petite, beautiful, and sweet person with the perfect hair she shows on her stories and Lauren is the natural beauty mom with the butt made out of stone (seriously go to her Instagram and see her 6-pack abs, post baby might I add, and perfectly toned tush).  During our chat I asked the girls where the name Summer Fridays came from.  They said they wanted their company and products to embody the feeling you get when you ditch work early on a summer Friday and head to the beach.  I'm sure you know the feeling...a bit bad for putting aside responsibility for a little me-time, yet completely relaxed and rejuvenated.  I'm so grateful that I was able to attend the launch party and if you're reading (which I'm sure you're not lol...just a lonely little blogger over here) Marianna and Lauren, I can only wish you both incredible success in your new endeavor.

Now onto the review of the Jet Lag Mask.

The debut (and wildly successful -- it's already sold out on their website) product from Summer Fridays is their Jet Lag Mask.  I had been following Marianna and Lauren on Instagram for a while so I had seen a lot of different sneak peaks and inside scoops about the product and knew the second it dropped I had to purchase it.  I set my alarm for 9:00am on March 8th (International Women's Day, btw) and immediately "add[ed] to cart" on the Sephora app on my phone.  Two days later I had it at my doorstep and on my face.  The mask comes in a metal tube that is eco-friendly and in the perfect shade of pale blue.  I always get excited when a mask comes in tube-form because it means I can dispense the perfect amount of product and not have to stick my grubby hands into it, fearing I've contaminated it.  The other benefit of a metal tube in particular is that you can fold it as you use the product ensuring that you get every last drop and at $48 a piece, you don't want to waste one bit!

Jet Lag is an intensive hydrating mask that is designed to plump fine lines most noticeably around the eyes, hydrate the entire face and reveal a bouncy and dewy complexion.  Created without any parabens, sulfates, fragrance, synthetic dyes, completely vegan, cruelty free, and USA-made, these girls have really curated every little bit of this product's ingredient list, and the beauty world is VERY impressed.  I'm assuming they plan to stay true to these values as they launch their next mask formulas over the coming months and I'm very interested to see what they have come up with.  Jet Lag's creamy moisturizer-like texture and ingredients make it a very multi-purpose mask.  You can wear it traditionally, generously smoothed over the entire face for 10-20 minutes and then wiped away (no need to rinse!!), smoothed over the skin lightly and worn overnight (it becomes clear!), and uniquely used as a primer for makeup by applying a thin layer over the entire face for 5-10 minutes and then wiping off the excess.  Over the past two weeks of owning the product I have used it all 3 ways and I am in love with the results of each application technique.

Wearing it traditionally, you experience a soothing and mild tingle thanks to the peppermint extract, very mild exfoliation from the chestnut extract (if you find it "pilling" on the skin that's dead skin not the product, fyi!), and are left with plump, glowing, and hydrated skin.  There is no greasy/oily residue or a film left behind at all.  If you choose to wear it overnight, which I highly recommend and do at least 3 times a week, make sure you only use the amount you would for a moisturizer so that it can completely absorb into the skin.  In the morning you will find your skin looking much like a baby's butt.  For real, when I woke up the next morning it had looked like I had already done my entire morning skincare routine and slept 12 hours.  I usually wake up a bit oily in my T-zone from my overnight cream but there was no oiliness or dryness in sight that morning.  My skin actually looked better as the day went on, it was crazy!  This method can also be used during flights(hence the name Jet Lag) since it dries clear! You can mask while cruising 30,000 feet in the air and no one will even know.  Lastly, you can wear this as a primer.  Apply a thin and light layer across the face and dap off with a cloth or tissue.  I recommend also applying a little extra under the eyes for an extra boost in hydration.  When you have gotten rid of the excess go right in with you foundation.  It should glide on smoothly and I even noticed my concealer went on better and had less creases because the mask had plumped up my under eyes almost completely smoothing them out.  You will see your skin looking much more luminous, less cakey even with additional powdering, and no extra shine in oil-prone areas.

If you aren't sold by now to buy at least 4, I'm not sure I can help you except maybe suggest you contact a doctor to get your head checked.  After using this mask I can 100% say it is the best mask I have every used and being a dry-skinned girl, I have tried my fair share of hydrating masks.  If you are dying to get your hands on the Jet Lag mask you can buy it now on the Summer Fridays website (currently sold out but you can join the waiting list!) and exclusively on Sephora.com.  Pick up 2 or 3 because I'm confident it will continue to sell out and while you're at it, go follow Marianna, Lauren, and Summer Fridays on Instagram to see the mask in action and get first hand information of restocks and new launches that are coming at you!
