My Thoughts on Glossier's Solution

You already know how obsessed I am with Glossier products.  I have bought almost every newly launched product the day they were released (their new eyeshadow, Lidstar, is in the mail as I type!).  Solution is their newest skincare addition and it is a 10% blend of AHA/BHA/PHA acids that chemically exfoliate the skin.  If you are wondering, "What the heck do all those letter mean," don't worry I'll break it down for you.   AHA helps to reduce the appearance of acne and dark spots, BHA with salicylic acid helps target acne and clogged pores, and PHA exfoliates the skin without stripping its moisture.  While Solution is marketed toward people struggling with acne, it can also be used to treat all different skincare struggles like clogged pores, texture, and uneven skin tone.  I, in particular, was hoping to target the clogged pores on the bridge and around the creases of my nose, on my forehead near my hairline, some large pores between my eyebrows, and lastly help fade the dark spot around the left corner of my mouth.

With any skincare product, especially those dealing with acids, they take time to start working.  Glossier perfumed a clinical trial which followed testers for 4 weeks.  In that 4 weeks Glossier found that 3 out of 4 people said "after 24 hours skin felt cleaner and softer; after one week skin looked smoother, brighter, and clearer; after two weeks pores were smaller and skin looked glowy and Solution reduced blackheads including around the nose; after three weeks Solution unclogged pores and reduced redness; and finally after four weeks, 94% of their daily users said their skin was clearer."  After reading through those results I was PUMPED to try out this product!  When I got it in the mail I used it once a day in the morning after cleansing (make sure you ALWAYS wear SPF after using acids!) and followed up with the rest of my skincare routine.  Below you'll find the results after 6 weeks of use!

Looking at these photos make me cringe and force me to wonder why I'd ever put these on the internet but hey, I want to give you as many details as possible, so I hope you appreciate this!  In each photo I only have my skincare products applied to my face and my eyebrows and mascara done so I don't look like a 12 year old.  I took these with no filter (obviously, lol) and in the best natural light I could find.  First, let us take a look at that beautiful Before photo...that dead eye stare is what happens when you haven't sleep a whole night through for 2 weeks.  (People, this girl needs her sleep badddd!)  As you can see from the 1st and 3rd photo (the befores) I don't have that many issues you can see other than the small breakout on my chin.  Since clogged pores and texture were my skin dilemma they don't really show up in photos, but if I were to run my hand across my face I could feel little bumps all over my skin and it drove me crazy!!  After the 6 weeks I am pleased to say that the clogged pores around my nose and the little bumps scattered around my face are now almost completely smooth.  My skin hasn't felt this soft since 7th grade and I am loving it.  Two things I was hoping to see change that didn't were the size of the pores between my eyebrows and a brighter and less red complexion.  I'm crossing my fingers that with continued use I will see those changes!

I still have more than half the bottle left after 6 weeks of once a day use and for $24, I think that's the best value for money product Glossier has every done.  Even though I have seen results with the Solution I think once I finish my bottle I'll be skipping a restock.  This mostly comes down to further research of the product.  Firstly, I really don't like that the product has fragrance added in.  They did this to hide the horrid smell acids naturally produce but, whenever you add a fragrance into a product you are making it more likely to flare up sensitive skin users, which is often the case with acne prone skin.  I read a lot of reviews around the internet and on Instagram of people having horrible reactions within 24 hours of use, and many concluded it was from the added fragrance!!  So if you have sensitive skin, beware! Secondly, Solution is pretty much a copycat of the cult classic Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 which is fragrance and phenol (super smelly ingredient) free chemical exfoliator proven to work on all skin types with no reactions.  It is twice the cost but in the end wouldn't you rather pay a little extra to know you are getting better ingredients all around? And thirdly, it was a life changing product like my Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate.

In the end I still love Glossier and like the slave I am, I will continue to buy their products, but this one in particular will have to be a pass for me and I think it should be a pass for you too.

Let me know if you bought Solution and what results or lack of results you saw!  And before you go, if you want 10% off your Glossier purchase use this link, I recommend their Milk Jelly Cleanser, Boy Brow, Stretch Concealer, and their Priming Moisturizer.
